About Me
I was born in Nottinghamshire in 1979. Although I enjoyed illustration and painting watercolour landscapes from an early age, I stopped when I left school. I went on to study physics then work in telecoms and web development, but never really found any passion for my work.
It wasn't until I got back into painting during the 2020 pandemic that I found the satisfaction I had been looking for. Whether trying to capture a persons likeness in a portrait, envisage a landscape which you could gaze upon for hours, or recreating the beauty of a single flower, I find the act of creating incredibly fulfilling.
My style is probably best described as contemporary or modern realism, depicting my subjects in a realistic manner, but with visible marks and brushstrokes. I prefer to work in oils, no other medium really gives you the same vibrancy and texture, allowing you to express through mark marking as well as colour and composition.
I now live in Bristol having moved here over 20 years ago. As a city with a thriving art scene best known for its vibrant street art, it is an inspiring place for an artist to live and work.
I am currently taking commissions for portraits, if you are interested please get in touch at hello@simonmilesart.co.uk or via the contact page. I would love to hear from you.
